SEMINAR: Going Independent? What You Need To Know About Contracts & Collections In this tough economic environment, more communications professionals are striking out on their own. Often, however, they have little experience in running a business and managing the legal issues involved with contracting with their clients – and getting compensation in the event a client is unable or unwilling to pay. To learn how to protect your business and yourself, join the Association for Women in Communications South Florida and collections attorney Carolyn Kellman for “Going Independent? What You Need To Know About Contracts & Collections,” a seminar about managing your contracting and collections process as an independent practitioner. You’ll learn the basics of contracting with clients, retainers, personal guaranties, and invoicing. You’ll also learn the proper collections processes for situations like bad checks and nonpayment and what you can legally and feasibly do on your own before hiring a lawyer and initiating litigation as a last resort. Admission includes a free drink and snacks. Cost: AWCSF members - free Nonmembers - $5 About Carolyn Kellman: Carolyn Kellman is a partner at Adorno & Yoss LLP’s Miami office and a member of the Collections Department. Ms. Kellman represents numerous national collection agencies, assisting them with resolutions with South Florida debtors. She also acts as a "lawyer-liaison" for clients who want their countrywide collections administered by a sole source. Ms. Kellman, Esq., is a frequent lecturer on the subject of collection law.
